Ragy Elgendy is an architectural engineer who studied architecture at Pharos University in Alexandria. He completed his master's degree at Alexandria University, where his research focused on sustainable approaches to the adaptive reuse of industrial heritage buildings. During his master's studies, Ragy have worked with the International Urban Development Association on the development of the Minat el-Bassal conservation area, working under the umbrella of the French Development Agency (AFD) as part of an international team from France and Egypt. This collaborative project involved multiple stakeholders, including the Alexandria municipality, building owners, investors, and developers, with the aim of revitalizing the entire heritage site.
With a foundational background in architecture, Ragy has accrued significant experience in academia and the field. He spent five years as a teaching assistant in Alexandria, Egypt, followed by another five years as a senior architect in both Egypt and Austria. Ragy's expertise is particularly strong in passive house design and energy renovations, where he has developed a robust technical understanding. Committed to the principles of sustainable architecture.
Ragy has been actively promoting the energy transition in the residential sector since 2014. He has participated in several summer schools across Europe that focus on advancing energy renovations for residential buildings. His work emphasizes passive house design standards, as well as the integration of high-tech architecture in energy-efficient solutions
Ragy is currently a PhD researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft with a specialization in upscaling energy renovations for residential buildings across the European Union. He focuses on identifying viable business models for integrated home renovation service providers targeting homeowners' associations. His PhD is part of CondoReno project, funded by the European Life Program.
