Biography
Poulumi Dey is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering since September 2018. Her scientific background is a strong overlap of basic Science and Materials engineering. Poulumi Dey’s research activities, so far, have been primarily focused on ab-initio based designing of technologically relevant materials e.g. high-strength steels in order to improve their mechanical properties and widen their applicability. She also performs first principles based studies to understand the precipitation behavior in complex metallic alloys. In addition, she is actively involved in the development of strategies to mitigate hydrogen embrittlement of steels and superalloys.
Poulumi Dey completed her Masters of Science degree in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) in 2005. Following this, she obtained her PhD degree in the field of theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from IITG in May 2011. The topic of her PhD was "Disorder and spin imbalance induced exotic phases in weakly coupled s-wave superconductors". In February 2012, she joined Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH (Germany) as post-doctoral scientist and continued her research activities there until August 2018.
