Biography
Dr. Mark Voskuijl is assistant professor in Flight Mechanics and Propulsion at Delft University of Technology. Following a work placement at Boeing Helicopters on the topic of rotor aerodynamics in 2002, he conducted his MSc thesis work in 2003 at the helicopter department of the Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) on the topic of structural load alleviation for tilt-rotor aircraft. At the beginning of 2004, he joined the Flight Science and Technology research group of the University of Liverpool as a PhD student. His doctoral research was performed within the ‘helicopter active control technology’ project (HELI-ACT) under supervision of Dr. Daniel Walker and Prof. Dr. Gareth Padfield. The aim of the project was to investigate the benefits of novel active control concepts applied to the mutual improvement of handling qualities, flight envelope protection and structural load alleviation for helicopters. This project involved close collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). Extensive use was made of their advanced systems research aircraft, a fly-by-wire Bell 412 helicopter. Mark completed his PhD in June 2007 and has joined Delft University of Technology in April 2007. With respect to education he is responsible for several courses related to flight mechanics, in the form of lectures or projects. Furthermore, he is the coordinator of the Master track Flight Performance and Propulsion. His main research focus is on the flight mechanics of unconventional fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft.
