Profile

Manuela Triggianese is Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture. She is research coordinator of the Section Building Knowledge and master coordinator for the Group of Complex Projects. Graduated cum laude in Italy, she is trained as architect. In 2012 she moves to the Netherlands and starts working at the architectural firm KAAN Architecten. In 2014 she obtains the doctoral degree at the Faculty of Architecture in Venice (IUAV), participating to the international doctoral research program Villard d’Honnecourt. This is a collaboration between Delft University of Technology, IUAV, Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid and École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville. In 2015 she works at the Beijing Technical University as  Marie Curie research fellow in the program ‘Urban Knowledge Network Asia'. From 2016 to 2018 she is postdoctoral researcher at Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions and lecturer at TU Delft. She is currently member of the TU Delft vision team Mobility called Mobilisers. With its broad representation from six faculties (CEG, TPM, IDE, 3ME, AE, A&BE), the TU Delft Mobilisers are exploring ideas on how to create seamless mobility systems that are sustainable, resilient, affordable, inclusive, and equitable. Her main education and research themes relate to the architecture of mobility (stations), being a major driver of urban development. Her focus is on the integrated approach of design and its role in the development of complex projects where multiple stakeholders, disciplines and data are involved. 

She contributes to the research of the Department of Architecture and to the transdisciplinary program DIMI - Future (proof) Built Environment. She is the author of (international) publications and member of scientific research committees. She speaks fluently Italian, English, French and Spanish.

    NWO research project WALK-IN

    WALK-IN (acronym of Widening sustAinable mobiLity networKs: Impact on Nodes) focuses on how to improve mobility transition, make it seamless and create public space for more inviting and attractive stations for people and with less car. The general objective will be to develop a design toolkit for professionals in the creative industry which provide generic guidelines and spatial solutions for the integration of sustainable mobility with public space at stations. The project aims to develop a new network and an EU funding proposal on Energy transition and Sustainability.

    WALK-IN project is financed by NWO KIEM GoCi program, as an exploratory research in the field of the creative industry. Main activities are: planned workshops, research-by-design in education and a final symposium.

    Consortium partners are: PosadMaxwan, De Zwarte Hond, Vereniging Deltametropool, the City of Rotterdam, Bureau Spoorbouwmeester; Prorail Stations; Ministry of Infrastructure and the Water Management; Provincie Noord-Holland and Provincie Zuid-Holland.

    DIMI Special Project: The role of stations in future metropolitan areas

    What will the role and function of the station of the future be? The Delft Initiative for Mobility and Infrastructure (DIMI) awarded a € 87.500,- research grant to Manuela Triggianese and Roberto Cavallo to research possible answers to this question in a cross-disciplinary program.

  • 2017

    AMS Strategic project: Amsterdam 2050 Urban Makeover

    The Chair of Complex Projects, Department of Architecture at Delft University of Technology, teamed up with AMS Institute, the municipality of Amsterdam and KAAN Architecten to focus on the theme AMSTERDAM 2050. The Graduate students and teachers of the Chair reimagined what nine different sites of the metropolitan area of Amsterdam would be in 2050, based on a critical analysis of current findings and practices in the city. In AMS Mid-City Studio, the focus has been on ‘growth’ and ‘change’: growth of numbers of inhabitants and tourists, and change of energy, mobility, health and leisure concepts. There is an extra demand for new housing and housing types, new workspaces, new infrastructure and urban facilities and for different uses and management of public spaces.

    UKNA Visiting Research Fellowship

    UKNA (Urban knowledge Network Asia) is funded by the EU's Marie Curie Actions. It is an inclusive network that brings together concerned scholars and practitioners engaged in collaborative research on cities in Asia. In 2015 she spent part of her research in China for three months with the UKNA grant working at the Beijing Technical University
