Academic background
Marlein holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Delft University of Technology. In June 2020, she graduated cum laude from the MSc Hydraulic Engineering Environmental Fluid Mechanics track with her thesis on 'The hydrodynamics of an eco-innovative sediment reuse project in the Rotterdam Waterway: gaining insight into the physics and the predictive capability of two operational hydrodynamic models' in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam. She remained working at the Port of Rotterdam until January 2021, when she started her Ph.D. position in the Physical Oceanography group of the Hydraulic Engineering department at Delft University of Technology.
