J.A.S. (Jaco) Tresfon MSc
Profile
I am trained as a cognitive psychologist at Leiden University and have developed an interest in Human Factors and Safety early on. I like to learn from different domains and enjoyed gaining new experiences in my interest field through different roles (e.g. consultancy, research internships, commercial settings).
For my PhD research I studied patient safety on hospital wards using theoretical frameworks from Safety-II and Resilient Healthcare. I performed ethnographic and action research with ward nurses, trying to understand their perspectives toward normal work and the relationship with quality and safety instruments. I doing so, I have gained extensive experience in conducting field work and the everyday challenges in hospital care.
Currently I’m a lecturer at the Centre for Safety in Healthcare and Section Safety & Security Studies. My main area of expertise focuses on qualitative research methodology, patient safety and safety science, however my interests also include ethics, philosophy of science and epistemology, as well as nudging, decision making and human computer interaction.
