Biography

Emiliano Trodini is a PhD candidate at the Department of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE) at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin (Polito). Aiming at a broader view of the realm of science, he pursued a Master's degree in Micro- and Nanosystems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich). One of his projects was a study on polymer materials and processes to minimize liquid metal (GaIn) adhesion, followed by the design, fabrication, and characterisation of electrically tuneable and flexible capacitors based on the liquid metal. His graduation thesis was an experimental investigation of the physics of nanoparticle generation via spark ablation, along with the development of a technique to model the spark with a time-varying equivalent circuit. Before starting his PhD, he worked at VSParticle B.V. (Delft) as a designer of a reactor for spark ablation and, later, as a developer of a testing protocol for the electronics in that device. Emiliano is currently working on a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) on thermomechanical modelling in additive manufacturing of meter-sized steel components.
