Dr. E. (Eliz-Mari) Lourens
Profile
Biography
Eliz-Mari Lourens is Assistant Professor of Structural Monitoring and Identification, holding a dual appointed at the Dynamics of Solids and Structures, and Offshore Engineering sections. She obtained her MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) in 2007, and a PhD from the KU Leuven in 2012. Her main focus is the development of monitoring methodologies for data-driven assessment and diagnostics of structures, with attention to an optimal integration of physics-based models with machine learning techniques.
More specific research interests include sequential Bayesian filtering (optimal state/input/parameter estimation), model updating, system identification and modal testing, vibration-based damage detection, and other structural health monitoring related topics.
