Profile

Biography

Since January 2019, Diana Carolina Callejas Moncaleano is a Ph.D. student in the Section of Sanitary Engineering. She obtained her degree in Environmental Engineering, and her Master's in Civil Engineering at Universidad de Los Andes, Bogota Colombia. Her experience mainly focuses on water management resources in the academic, private, and public sectors. Diana is keenly interested in innovative solutions to such multi-faceted challenges of water use as efficiency (WUE)  (SDG indicator 6.4.1 “change in water use efficiency over time”), water consumption, and socio hydrology mainly.

This research focuses on studying water demand and understanding the efficient use of water in selected regions in Colombia, specifically for rural and peri-urban water supply systems. The aim of this is to examine the factors that constrain water use efficiency and have an influence on the behavior of water users to assess water use efficiency as a strategy for sustainable water use. She uses social research and environmental engineering knowledge to capture and analyse the data.

This will be realized through an investigation of the technical, socio-economic, environmental, institutional, and behavioural factors, looking into the main drivers of inefficient water use.

She was a research assistant at Universidad de Los Andes in the Water Supply and Sewers Systems Research Center (CIACUA), and in the Environmental Engineering Research Center (CIIA), for the project “Monitoring, assessment, and modeling of pollutants to the sewer system management for the Water and Sewerage Company of Bogotá”. Meanwhile, she was an assistant for hydraulics and wastewater treatment courses. Then she lectured water management at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and at the Universidad Manuela Beltran in Bogotá.
