Additive Manufacturing of Liquid Crystal Polymers: towards a manufacturing method for anisotropic complex structures preserving design freedom
Biography
Caroline Houriet is a PhD candidate at the Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies group. After a baccalaureate with highest national grade on record in 2013, she started higher education in the french system of 'Grandes Écoles'. Following a two-year preparatory class in Louis-le-Grand in Paris, she got admitted to ENSTA ParisTech to study theoretical mechanics. She then joined TU Delft in 2017 to follow a MSc in the Aerospace Structures and Materials department. During her master thesis under the supervision of Dr. C. Rans and Prof. C. Dransfeld, she focused on interlayer features that could be observed during additive manufacturing of liquid crystal polymers. She graduated cum laude in 2019.
She started working as a PhD student in 2020 under the supervision of Dr. Kunal Masania, supported by the European Space Agency. Her research focuses on Additive Manufacturing of Liquid Crystal Polymers. Her goal is to develop strategies that broaden the possibilities of additive manufacturing so that parts can be created for which not only the shape, but also the microstructure, are tuned according to a three-dimensional load case.
