Profile

Dr. Wilbert den Hoed is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the 15minESTATES project, which studies the nexus of urban space, transport options and sustainable mobility needs with a specific focus on large-scale housing estates. He is part of the Urban Studies section of the   Department of Urbanism, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. His research is interested in the social inclusion effects of contemporary urbantransitions, in particular of interventions that support active mobility and healthy urban living opportunities. In extension, he is concerned with their urban development implications, the age-friendliness of urban mobilitytransitions, and the conditioning effects of urban tourism. These were also the core topics of his recently finished Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action ENTOURAGE, undertaken at the research group Territorial Analysis and Tourism Studies (GRATET) of the Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain). His research experience has led to a wide international network of researchers around the topics of active mobility, urban tourism, and sustainable urban development policy and planning. Between 2018 and 2021, Wilbert also worked as Research Associate at the European Policies Research Centre, a research institute for comparative research on public policy based at the University of Strathclyde and the Department of Urbanism at Delft University of Technology. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom.
