Biography
Dr. Abraham Gebremariam is an assistant professor at Resources and Recycling, Delft University of Technology. He obtained his PhD in sustainable construction materials at the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University (Denmark). He holds MSc in Materials Science from a joint study at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), University of Hamburg (Germany) and Aalborg University (Denmark). He has worked as a postdoc researcher at Delft University of Technology, developing a full-scale recycling technology for end-of-life concrete retrieved from construction and demolition activities. Recently, the technology has been valorised as C2CA Technologies. His current research focuses on online quality analysis of recycled aggregates using LIBS spectroscopy, circularity of construction materials, including reuse and recovering of building materials. His expertise includes thermal calcination of clays, cementitious materials, recycling technologies, hydration of cement, re-carbonation of concrete and aggregates.
Projects
1. ICEBERG (Innovative Circular Economy Based solutions demonstrating the Efficient recovery of valuable material Resources from the Generation of representative End-of-Life building materials) aims to make significant advances in the uptake of the circular economy in the building industry through the development of innovative circular reverse logistics’ tools and high-value secondary raw materials production technologies to establish market confidence and acceptability of recycled End-of-Life building materials. https://iceberg-project.eu/
2. “Cost-Effective Recycling of C&DW in High Added Value Energy Efficient Prefabricated Concrete Components for Massive Retrofitting of our Built Environment”. Acronym: VEEP. Funded by the European Commission (H2020 programme). Project website: www.veep-project.eu
