Biography

Arie Bergsma studied Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. In 1995 he graduated on lightweight composite structures and started working as a material researcher at the former Hoogovens R&D, now Tata Steel. Because of his interest in architecture and construction, he decided to study building technology at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Between 1998 and 2004 he studied part-time and worked at various engineering firms, including D3BN Consultancy Engineers and Peutz Consulting Engineers.

At the latter company he worked from 2001 to 2006 as an advisor in the field of building physics, building acoustics and energy performance and was involved in large-scale projects throughout the Netherlands.

In 2006 he started his architectural engineering office GAAGA together with Esther Stevelink to focus on his own architectural projects and consultancy work. His activities in this area include energy-efficient and circular building, transformation projects and material and construction technology.

Since 2007 he has been involved at TU Delft as a lecturer in construction and facade engineering, chair of Design of Construction.
