In this Meet & Eat, Just Herder will talk about what it means to him to be a Leermeester | Professor of Excellence. During his talk, Just will discuss what drives him as an educator and researcher, highlighting how these two roles merge and strengthen each other.
In addition, Just will shed light on examples that have contributed to him becoming a passionate academic and Leermeester. Amongst others, he will address how his educational activities evolved over the years, including design courses and projects, as well as the development of his research directions from rehabilitation to precision engineering.
Towards the end of the lunch lecture, Just will invite you to collaboratively discuss ideas about the future of engineering education.

About the speaker
In 2023, Just Herder was celebrated as the Professor of Excellence | Leermeester of TU Delft.
Just is a full professor of Interactive Mechanisms and Mechatronics, Chair of the Mechatronic System Design group and Head of Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering at Delft University of Technology. He has widely published in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences and has received several international awards. He is an ASME fellow, board member of several international conferences, associate editor of Mechanism and Machine Theory, and co-founder of Mechanical Sciences. Seven start-up companies have emerged from his research and he holds over a dozen international patents in different areas of mechanism design. He held visiting positions at Laval University, Canada, and at MIT, USA, as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar.
