Academic background

Before joining Industrial Design Engineering, he worked in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Unviersity of Leeds (UK) as a Research Fellow, Lecturer and Associate Professor for a total of 12 years. During this time he worked on a variety of Robotics projects including biologically inspired systems, a medical robot, robotic fabrication systems and robots for inspection of civil infrastructure. He also collaborated with colleagues in the School of Medicine and Health, designing various pieces of apparatus for their pre-clinical experimental work.

He earned his PhD in Computer science, studying the neuro-mechanical control of locomotion in the nematode worm C. elegans in the School of Computing at the University of Leeds. Prior to that, he did an MSc by research and a BSc (Hons) at the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cape Town (South Africa)
