Transition to a Gas-Free District in Schiedam by Laura Filemon

In this presentation, Laura Filemon will share the experience of the Groenoord neighbourhood in Schiedam as it transitions to a natural gas-free future, from a local government perspective. Groenoord was the first existing neighbourhood in Schiedam to start this transition after the council voted in favour of the proposal in December 2020. The presentation will focus on challenges specific to VvE’s (Owners' Associations). She will highlight the key legal and participatory challenges encountered and share lessons learned that can be applied to similar projects in other neighbourhoods and cities. As Process Manager Climate and Energy at the Municipality of Schiedam, Laura is responsible for coordinating and implementing climate and energy transition policies and projects.
