A group of TU Delft bachelor students has developed, as part of the students’ minor in Computational Science and Engineering, a new model that accurately predicts the molecular properties of alkanes. This knowledge is crucial for the development of renewable fuels.

Due to the uncertainties of human behaviour, policies often play out differently in practice than what one might expect based on rational models. Researcher Emile Chappin aims to better align policy and practice by modelling human behaviour to accelerate the energy transition. In his research, he wants to give the greenhouse horticulture sector a boost in using clean energy more intelligently and profitably by using computer simulations that include behavioural uncertainties.

Oriol Colomés Gené is awarded a NWO Vidi grant to work on a first digital ocean to assess floating solar farms. The model will enable researchers to study the interactions between the waves, wind and floating solar platforms. Understanding the impact opens doors to work on improving the efficiency of energy production.

As Europe pushes to meet its renewable energy targets, geothermal energy, with its potential to provide a reliable and climate-friendly source of heat, must be scaled up. The new EU-funded FindHeat consortium, led by TU Delft, will develop an innovative toolkit to support more efficient and sustainable exploitation of geothermal energy. It will reduce technical and economic risks and boost public support.

Over the past few years, a team of scientists and technicians from the TU Delft Reactor Institute have been working on a large-scale upgrade and modernisation of the Delft reactor. The result is a state-of-the-art facility where researchers and students from around the world can now conduct faster and more advanced research. The milestone was officially celebrated on Thursday 17 October 2024.
