On 13 October 2023 Alliander and the TU Delft Powerweb Institute signed a letter of intent to collaboratively foster innovation to find intelligent solutions that will accelerate the energy transition and contribute to a more sustainable and greener world.

Extracting as much energy as cost-effectively as possible from each individual wind turbine epitomised the short-term approach of the past. But what we need for a climate-neutral and energy-independent Europe is a shift towards sustainable wind energy in the long term, taking into account all costs and aspects – including societal and environmental ones. This is what the wind farm control room of the future is all about.

“To overcome the technological, economic, environmental and social challenges that are currently stalling the development of offshore wind energy and help it grow to its full potential, we have to shift to sustainable wind farming.” This is Carlos Simao Ferreira’s message in his inaugural speech as Full Professor of Wind Energy Science at TU Delft.
