Martin Skrodzki | Illustrating Mathematics
2 MARCH 2023 | 12:30-13:30
Mathematical understanding is built in many ways. Among these, illustration has been a companion and tool to research for as long as research has taken place. Here, illustration is meant in the broadest sense, including computer visualizations, 3D printing, and virtual reality, among others. The talk will provide a brief overview on opportunities, challenges, and results currently present in the "Illustrating Mathematics" community.
Martin Skrodzki studied mathematics and computer science in Dortmund (Germany), Laredo (TX, USA), and Berlin (Germany), where he graduated with a Dr. rer. nat. in 2019 at the Freie University Berlin. Afterwards, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Computational and Experimental Mathematics (ICERM) at Brown University (RI, USA), the RIKEN institute (Japan) founded by the German Acaemic Scholarship Foundation, and TU Delft (Netherlands) founded by the Walter-Benjamin-Program of the German Research Foundation. He is currently an assistant professor at TU Delft in the group of Computer Graphics and Visualization. His research interests include the visualization of high-dimensional data, discrete geometry processing as well as interactions between mathematics and arts.
