NWO Open Technology funding to produce a versatile acid sustainably
The NWO has awarded over 5.3 million euros to six projects through the Open Technology Programme, including the research of Ludovic Jourdin to make products from CO2 and renewable electricity, based on a versatile acid. Apart from the NWO funding, companies and other organisations involved invest 1.1 million euros into the projects.
NWO Grant for e-HEAT: understanding and controlling heat to enable large-scale electrolysers
The Board of NWO's domain of Applied and Technical Sciences awarded funding to the project e-HEAT: Understanding and controlling heat to enable large-scale electrolysers by Dr J.W.R. Peeters of TU Delft, through the Open Technology Programme.
Partnership launched between e-Refinery and the HyET Group to develop decarbonisation technologies
TU Delft e-Refinery has entered into a partnership with HyET E-Trol and HyET NoCarbon to develop and scale up electrolysis and carbon capture and utilization technologies.
Three Vidi’s for faculty 3mE
The Dutch Research Council has awarded 101 experienced researchers a Vidi grant worth 800,000 euros. Eight Vidis go to top researchers from Delft, of which no fewer than three researchers work at the 3mE faculty: Michael Wiertlewski, Willem Haverkort and Kim Batselier. The grant enables them to develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group in the coming five years.

e-Refinery Symposium
e-Refinery Symposium The e-Refinery Symposium took place on March 14 and 15. The symposium was organized to discuss our common interests in scalable electrochemical technologies, with a centred discussion on the interaction between the e-Refinery infrastructures and the needs of the industry. From CO2 to Plastics and Laptops Day one Day two Recordings Poster sessions From CO2 to Plastics and Laptops Next to the generating power and heat, fossil fuels (hydrocarbons) also serve as feedstocks in all kinds of industrial processes, ultimately providing society with plastics, laptops, televisions – tangible things that can’t be made with green electricity alone. CO 2 conversion by means of electrocatalysis is where renewable energy meets renewable feedstocks meets CO 2 emission reduction. ‘Our world is based on carbon,’ says Tom Burdyny. ‘And the only way to replace carbon renewably is by converting captured CO 2 .’ One way to do that is the so-called reverse water-gas-shift reaction, in which CO 2 and hydrogen are converted into carbon monoxide and water. You can then use carbon monoxide and hydrogen to create a large variety of hydrocarbons and compounds containing oxygen. But this is not as good a solution as industry would want. Electrocatalytic conversion of CO 2 is a promising alternative in that it allows the direct production of multi-carbon compounds such as ethylene.
