Research

High Performance Computing (HPC) is a pervasive technology that strongly contributes to the excellence of science, education and innovation at TU Delft. A wide range of scientific questions cannot be answered without using HPC. Here are a few examples:

• How to develop a safer and more efficient aircraft generation?
• How to improve the green energy systems such as solar panels and wind turbines?
• What’s the impact of phenomena on climate development?
• How can we improve customized treatments for patients?

Accessing the supercomputer 
The Delft High Performance Computing Centre (DHPC) provides the facilities (hardware, software and training) for researchers and students in order to be able to run complex analyses and simulations.

 DHPC makes arrangements with faculties and research groups about the distribution of capacity: 'fairshare' use.

• With a NetID researchers can log on to the computer and use the system as a guest user with limited capacity. A guest status offers the possibility to explore the system and experiment with limited capacity.
• If you actually want start using the computer a request for access and use of the 'fairshare' of a faculty (or project) can be submitted via the Self Service Portal. 
• Teachers who want to use the computer for teaching a course or for a MSc project can apply for customised access. For example, access for a student/group of students, a reservation of resources for a practicum and specific software.
• Students do not get access by default. However, with the permission of their supervisor, they can request access to and use of the supercomputer. This can be for a course, a BSc or MSc project.
