Title: From Cooperative Vehicles to Cooperative Transport: An Overview of C-ITS Research at TU Dresden

Abstract

In the past 10 years, I have been working on controller design and traffic flow impact assessment for cooperative and autonomous vehicles on highways, which is best represented by the first three PhD theses I supervised at TU Delft. Realizing the urgency to tackle urban transport problems, I started to shift my attention to traffic dynamics of urban networks. My move to TU Dresden offers me opportunities to design Cooperative ITS applications to support safe, efficient and sustainable transport systems. In this talk, I will present the transition from TUD(elft) to TUD(resden) and give an overview of the current C-ITS projects on multi-modal transport systems in the Chair of Traffic Process Automation of TU Dresden.

Resume

Dr. Meng Wang is a Professor (W3) and Head of the Chair of Traffic Process Automation at the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Technische Universität Dresden. Prior to this post, he was an Assistant Professor (2015-2021, tenured in 2019) at the Department of Transport & Planning of TU Delft and Co-Director of the Electric and Automated Transport lab (hEAT lab). He obtained his BSc (2003) at Tsinghua University, MSc (2006) at Research Institute of Highway (RIOH), Ministry of Transport, and PhD Cum Laude (2014) at TU Delft. From 2006 to 2009, he worked as an Assistant Researcher at the National ITS Center of RIOH. Between 2014 and 2015, he worked as a PostDoc researcher at the Automotive Group at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TU Delft.

He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on ITS, IET ITS, Transportmetrica B, and Journal of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, and an Editorial Board Member of Transportation Research Part C. He is a member of TRB Vehicle Highway Automation Committee and IEEE ITS Society Technical Committee on Cooperative Driving. He is the recipient of the IEEE ITS Society Best PhD Dissertation Award (2015, 2nd prize) and IEEE ITSC Best Paper Award (2013, 2nd prize). His main research interests are traffic flow modelling, driver behaviour, controller design and impact assessment for cooperative systems.
