Marine Renewable Energies Lab (MREL)
The Marine Renewable Energies Lab (MREL) is a forward thinking research team of Dr George Lavidas. It was initiated in January 2021 at TU Delft, under the umbrella of the Offshore Engineering Section, at the Department of Hydraulic Engineering. In 2022 MREL was acknowledged by the International Energy Agency Ocean Energy Systems (IEA-OES) Annual Report.
MREL focuses on the development, improvement, optimisation of renewable energy project though a variety of approaches. The lab uses a plethora of novel developed methodologies and models for, resource assessments, Climate Change impacts, array optimisation, hydrodynamics, nearshore impacts, shallow water dynamics, hybridisation with marine energies, Energy System Integration of marine renewables, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), techno-economics.
