More connections to the low-voltage grid possible with a flexible backstop

A priority challenge for the Netherlands is increasing capacity on the electricity grid. There have been many activities recently to address this challenge, including Stedin and Eneco's trial of requesting users to switch off solar panels and TenneT's new duration-related contracts for large users.

The PowerWeb Institute has released a new position paper that proposes an alternative option that could contribute to increasing grid capacity for households that does not involve physical expansion of the grid or reliance on market mechanisms. The concept is termed the "Flexible backstop."
