X can scale up gradually
After a positive evaluation of the last three weeks, X can gradually scale up to the next phase of reopening. Step by step, more activities offered by X can be made possible again in the coming period (tentatively until 1 September). As a first step, the recently renovated terrace of Cafe X will open and a takeaway concept will be launched. Besides tennis courts, you can also reserve music studios and beach volleyball fields. In the second step, you can take part in ticket hours which will be moved outdoors. and. In the third step, you can take part in various activities inside, like the ACTlab.
It is part of the role of X, especially in this exceptional period, to listen carefully to the needs within the student and TU Delft community. Now that the measures in the Netherlands have been somewhat relaxed, we see opportunities to offer you and your friends or colleagues a place where you can come together again in a safe and responsible way. The steps we have in mind will be constantly monitored and evaluated in the coming weeks, so that we can also continue to anticipate the possibly changing needs. It goes without saying that we must at all times take into account the fact that the situation in the Netherlands and/or on campus can change rapidly and that the measures may need to be adjusted or reversed.
Step 1: 22 June
From 22 June, Cafe X will re-open so you can pick up delicious sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, pasta, salads or soup again. You can either take your dish home with you, or you can also choose to relax on the renewed terrace. Please note that the terrace can accommodate up to 50 people, adhering to the 1.5 metres measure. Curious about the complete menu? Check it out on our website.
In addition to being able to reserve tennis courts, you will also have the possibility to reserve a beach volleyball field. And if you would like to play your musical instrument or practise with your band, you can book one of the music studios at X. The music studios will be available for use until 6 July, from then on the entrance to Freetown will close due to renovation works.
Step 2: 29 June
From Monday 29 June, you will be able participate in ticket hours outside. Think of the familiar ticket hours such as Hatha Yoga, Zumba, Running and Legs Bums & Tums (LBT). The complete schedule and the exact locations will soon become available online. Make sure you enrol for your favourite ticket hour through our webshop.
From this date onwards, we will continue to expand the outdoor sports possibilities, by including reservations for a hockey field, soccer field and basketball field.
Step 3: 6 July
As of 6 July, we can start with sports activities indoors, provided the measures taken by the Dutch government are relaxed as planned. X is preparing for this and examines the feasibility of the options for reopening inside. It is currently being investigated whether the Fitness can be opened in an adapted form and whether it is possible to open the indoor section of Cafe X.
It is confirmed that, as of 6 July, you will be able to visit the VR Booths and the Art, Crafts & Technology Lab (ACTlab) again. You can get started with the 3D printer or laser cutters. However, you do need to be in possession of an ACTlab certificate and book a time slot in advance via our webshop. The Community nights and Certificate nights will return after the summer.
Next steps
Depending on the needs and the extent to which the measures continue to be relaxed, we will investigate whether it is possible to take further steps within the current scaling up (until 1 September). In the meantime, discussions are also taking place as to what the role of X will be as of 1 September, when the new academic year starts.
For more detailed information per step, we will inform you in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on the website for new updates.
Safety measures
Make sure you come to X well prepared and to adhere our safety measures at all times. If you want to come and play sports or practice in a studio, you have to make a reservation in advance. It is not yet possible to stand along the field as a spectator. However, Cafe X is freely accessible, with a maximum of 50 visitors.
In order to ensure we can accommodate the maximum amount of visitors, we use the following opening hours:
- Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 23:00;
- on weekends from 11:00 to 22:00.
