Joost Lötters appointed part-time professor at PME
Joost Lötters has been appointed as a part-time professor within the Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering (PME) of the Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE).
Joost Lötters is Science Officer at Bronkhorst High-Tech B.V., and already holds a position as part-time professor in the Integrated Devices and Systems (IDS) group of the University of Twente (UT) in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences (EEMCS). Next to his industrial career at Bronkhorst, Joost Lötters has a strong scientific profile, as demonstrated by many publications and patents, his activities in editorships and committees, and the organisation of conferences. He is the main organizer of the Micro Fluidic Handling Systems (MFHS) conference.
Within PME, Joost Lötters will work on innovative systems for fluid handling, with a focus on the active components (pumps, valves, control loops) as well as miniaturisation of fluid handling systems. This links to applications in for instance the medical, bio-pharmaceutical and (petro-)chemical industry, but also medical point-of-care systems. One of the goals is the realisation of a portable modular microfluidic platform, for organ-on-a-chip applications. One of the ongoing projects, co-sponsored by Bronkhorst within the NERI program (Nano Engineering Research Initiative), makes the first steps towards new generations of miniaturised components and systems for precise control of low flows, see https://www.tudelft.nl/neri/research-programmes/imicrofluidics-integrated-microfluidic-sensors-and-actuators-platform/ .
