For the first half year of 2023, the TU Delft Climate Action Programme has granted 9 applications for the Seed Fund. The researchers come from the faculties CEG, TPM and 3ME.

Hevige stormen en zware regenval, beiden het resultaat van een steeds verder veranderend klimaat, vormen een steeds groter risico voor de samenleving. Sterker nog, naar schatting leidt extreem weer alleen al in Nederland tot 745 miljoen euro schade per jaar. Eén van de grootste problemen met extreme weersomstandigheden is echter dat we ze nog steeds slecht begrijpen. Dankzij het nieuwe PHARA-project, dat voor 3,5 miljoen euro wordt gefinancierd door NWO, kan daar verandering in komen. PHARA wil een 3D-weerradar maken die – als eerste in zijn soort – het groeiproces van wolkendeeltjes kan meten.
