Exploration Geophysics
Exploration Geophysics comprises primarily seismic and electromagnetic methods, dedicated to the search for hydrocarbons and the monitoring of hydrocarbon production and storage of waste products, down to a depth of 5 km. Using fundamental aspects of wave propagation and scattering in inhomogeneous media, we develop novel seismic and electromagnetic imaging and monitoring methodologies, accounting for the complex propagation and scattering phenomena of the inhomogeneous subsurface. This methodology development aims to contribute to the next generation of geophysical exploration methods employed by the oil- and gas-industry. Moreover, our imaging and monitoring methodology finds applications in regional and global geophysics and in non-destructive imaging of materials.
