On July the 1st Mark Neerincx gave a keynote at the ELLIS Summer School CoGenAI. In this talk, he presented theories, models and methods for aligning AI with human values and cognitive processes to enhance hybrid human-AI decision-making, problem-solving and creativity. The collaborative AI, embodied as virtual or physical agents, fosters the development of mutualistic, symbiotic human-AI relationships, promoting partnership behaviors and collaborative cognitions. Examples of value alignment, goal sharing, workload harmonization, co-learning and collaborative memories were provided for diverse application domains, including children’s diabetes management, people with dementia’s activities of daily living (ADL) and first responders’ disaster management. By consolidating HI solutions into team design patterns, research and development outcomes can be shared, compared, re-used and further developed, e.g., integrating new (generative) AI models.
