Dr. Stjepan Picek receives the best paper award at NDSS'23
The paper "DARWIN: Survival of the Fittest Fuzzing Mutators" co-authored by Dr. Stjepan Picek (Cyber Security group), received Distinguished Paper Award at NDSS'23!
The paper shows how evolutionary algorithms help in security fuzzing to discover bugs. Fuzzing automatically generates (mutates) inputs from test cases and feeds them to the program under test. If there is an error, the fuzzer notices it.
To decide how to select proper mutation, the researchers designed a novel evolution strategy-based approach that outperforms related works significantly in coverage and time to find bugs while being simple to use it.
Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium is one of the premier venues in Computer Security and is sponsored by the Internet Society.
