Paul Urbach
Research Interest: Optics
Academic Background:
After obtaining a PhD at Groningen University, Paul Urbach joined Philips Research Laboratory in Eindhoven (“Nat.Lab” as it was known at the time), where he was appointed Principle Scientist. In 2000 he became part-time professor Diffraction Optics at Delft University of Technology. In 2008 he became group leader of the Optics Research Group of Delft University of Technology. His research interests are in direct and inverse problems of high-resolution optical imaging, diffraction theory and the application of asymptotic methods to optics.
He is active in the European Optical Society, of which he has been Board member and twice president. He is member of the Advisory Board of the Minister of Economic Affairs on metrology and member of the Board of PhotonicsNL. He is scientific director of the Dutch Optics Centre, a joint initiative of Delft University of Technology and TNO to define and carry out joint research projects between academy and industry and to stimulate education in optics at various levels.
