Dr. Hanieh Bazyar
Asistant Professor
Hanieh Bazyar is a tenure track assistant professor in the section transport phenomena. Her position is part of the Climate action program, where she develops a new research line on electrochemical CO2 capture. In parallel to that she has research activities with focus on developing energy-efficient membrane-based separation techniques for application ranging from (waste)water treatment to H2 production/purification. She innovates smart membranes with tunable permeability/selectivity to overcome the Achilles heel of membranes, namely fouling. Via integration of membranes with microfluidics, she develops separation-sensing platforms for in-situ diagnosis applications.
In education, she teaches the Thermodynamic part of the Separation technology course to 2nd year bachelor students. She also designed and developed her course on “separation techniques for renewable processes” as an elective for MSc students.
Academic background
Hanieh studied Materials science and engineering in bachelor and master at Shiraz University. In 2016, she moved to the Netherlands, University of Twente to do a PhD. She did her PhD at group of soft matter, fluidics and interfaces and defended her thesis in 2020. In her PhD, she developed novel membranes known as “slippery liquid-infused membranes” for wastewater treatment applications. Using microfluidic technology, she studied fluid transport through the pores to reveal the underlying working mechanisms. After her PhD, she worked as a postdoc at TU Delft, the process and energy department, faculty of mechanical engineering, and from 2021 she started her tenure track.
Hanieh is member of the Transport Phenomena (TP) section.
