Dr.ir. Farzad Mousazadeh
Senior Design Supervisor/Lecturer
Farzad Mousazadeh works as Senior Design Supervisor/Lecturer in the EngD team and mainly focuses on supervising EngD trainees for their Individual and Group Design Projects in Process Equipment Design and optimization field and acquiring such projects from industry. His area of expertise includes process modelling and design, dynamic process simulation & control and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation.
Academic background
Farzad Mousazadeh obtained his BSc and MSc from Tehran Polytechnic. He graduated in 2005 and worked as Process Engineer and lecturer until 2009. He obtained his PhD from the Chemical Engineering Department at Delft University of Technology in 2013. His PhD thesis was focused on CFD simulation of formation of hot spots in trickle bed reactors. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of a three-phase trickle bed reactor with gas and liquid flowing in it, mass transfer from gas to liquid phase, evaporation-condensation, heat transfer between the phases and reaction in liquid phase was done to reach the final goal of the project. In addition, direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a packed bed reactor with random particle distribution and reaction in the gas-phase has been investigated during his PhD.
After his PhD he worked for ten years in the automation industry and the focus was on developing dynamic process models for optimization and training purposes. He performed dynamic process simulations for gas plants (onshore/offshore), regasification plant, olefine plant, underground gas storage plant, ammonium sulphate plant and nitric acid plant.
He is a board member of PSE-NL and supports PSE-NL for future development/innovation projects which involves both industry and academia.
