Product and Process Engineering | PPE
Product and Process Engineering (PPE) views chemical engineering as an expanding field full of opportunities to create devices, processes and products. With expertise in key areas such as reaction engineering, fluid mechanics and transport phenomena, we create viable solutions for novel sustainable chemical processes, soft-matter, nanotechnology, energy and lab-on-chip applications. We do this often together with chemistry, physics and life-science groups; as we love interdisciplinary projects. For us, chemical engineering implies out-of-the-box thinking and design going from molecule to enterprise level, from a sound basis in natural sciences with mathematical rigor.
A partial list of topics that we work on:
- intensified reaction and separation processes
- bubbles, drops and cells in laboratories-on-chip
- human disease models: organs-on-a-chip
- spatio temporal pattern formation in porous media
- rational design and synthesis of core-shell nanoparticles
- scaling up of the synthesis of nanostructured materials
- electrochemical reactors
- behavior of particles in turbulent gas/liquid systems
- granular matter in dense fluidized flows
PPE consists of Principal Investigators Ruud van Ommen, Gabrie Meesters, Pouyan Boukany, Volkert van Steijn and Alina Rwei.
