Improving learning outcomes with low-stakes assessments and adaptive teaching in a first-year math course.
The goal of this project is to get first-year students to start interacting with the course materials earlier in the quarter and to counter obstacles students face in this course during the lectures. Many first-year students fail their math courses because they underestimate the tempo and the contents. Moreover, over the years we see a decline in the prior knowledge of Dutch first-year students. International studies confirm this trend.
I would love to improve the results for these courses and lower the stress and anxiety in students when tackling these modules as many first-year students struggle with mathematics courses.
I aim to innovate and enhance education by implementing effective changes in educational strategies. My focus is on exploring adaptive teaching and low-stakes testing, leveraging the latest advancements to create dynamic and engaging learning environments.
