Vrijdag 1 april is een grote dag voor de studie van 2D-materialen (geen grap): er vindt een SpaceX raketlancering plaats waarbij een Delftse onderzoekssatelliet meegaat, die de eerste grafeen geleiders ooit bevat die de ruimte ingaan. Over twee maanden zullen we weten hoe grafeen zich in de ruimte gedraagt. Wat dat mogelijk maakte: de ontdekking van onderzoekers van de TU Delft hoe grafeen kan worden beschermd tegen invloeden uit de omgeving.

The Board of the Delft Space Institute is happy to announce that out of ten submitted projects four projects have been awarded the DSI Seed Grant 2022.

Onderzoekers van de TU Delft gaan met 20 samenwerkingspartners betrouwbare en veilige draadloze breedbandverbindingen maken met licht in plaats van radiogolven. Zij verwachten dat je op die manier digitale data met hoge snelheden kunt versturen en verwerken, met weinig vertragingen en op een veilige manier. Voor dit onderzoek ontvangen zij 4,1 miljoen euro vanuit het NWO Perspectief-programma. De TU Delft neemt tevens deel aan de overige vijf gehonoreerde Perspectief-consortia.

Miguel Bessa en Richard Norte ontvingen deze maand de Interstellar Initiatives Grant van het Limitless Space Institute. Zij ontvingen de Award voor hun onderzoek ‘Origami Photonic Crystal Sails with Machine Learning’, dat zich richt op de vraag hoe machine learning kan worden ingezet om nanotechnologie te optimaliseren op een manier die met conventionele, intuïtieve technieken moeilijk haalbaar is.

With more than 100 participants, the 2020 edition of the DSI-TNO-SRON ‘Innovate Your Space’ symposium themed ‘Smart Space’ on December 8th 2020 was again a success, even in an online environment.

GUSTO is a balloon telescope that will simultaneously map three types of material in the gas and dust between stars. TU Delft and SRON develop all three detector arrays for this NASA mission.
