[PDE&A] Domenico Lahaye: (Semi-)Numerical Methods for Wave Propagation in (Non-)Linear Media

We discuss a hierarchy of three models for wave propagation in
(non-)linear media. The first model is an initial value problem for a
scalar ordinary differential equation describing the oscillatory motion
of a point-mass attached to a cubic spring and quadratic damper. The
second model describes longitudinal vibrations of a string discretized
in both space and time. The third model aims at describing the vibration
of the door of a bus driving over a bumpy road or the motion of water
waves in a shallow channel. The talk will allow us to illustrate
features of the Julia programming language that have captured our
excitement and imagination.
