D.S.J.V. Groover

D.S.J.V. Groover is the student jazz association of Delft and was founded on November 21, 2006. Groover has grown in a short time to a full association with almost 400 members, who share their passion for jazz and related styles such as funk, Latin, soul, fusion and blues. Groover houses its activities in the building of Cultuurlab (Brabantse Turfmarkt 9), where every Wednesday a jam session is held

Groover hosts a wide range of activities throughout the year. From internal social drinks with pure conviviality to parties where you can bring your friends. Central to this are the weekly get-togethers with the open jam as the pulsating heart of our association. Around them you can participate in fun activities such as whisky tastings, music workshops and the members' weekend. Next to that you can enjoy concerts with our bands and of course our own festival: the famous annual Just Jazz with more than 1000 visitors who go completely crazy for the biggest jazz artists in the Netherlands. In short: Groover offers events on every scale, with something for every enthusiastic student. And the best part: As a committee member you can organize it yourself and give it your own twist!

As a student jazz association, there are many opportunities to get involved in music. There are many different musicians within the association. The level of the musicians varies from absolute beginner to conservatory student. The open atmosphere gives everyone the chance to develop, whether that is from other members or with professional workshops. Groover has it all.

Playing

Within the association you can make music in different ways. At Muppet Music you learn to jam with your fellow freshmen, where you learn more about jazz and build up the confidence to play along spontaneously. As a more experienced musician, you can also get started with a combo. At the jam or activities you will meet other members who are also ready to go on stage. With that, you can then take advantage of our overwhelming range of professional PA. Even better: We even offer our own booking agency to arrange the best gigs for you and earn some extra money on the side. Are you looking for a larger band under professional direction? Then you can join one of our association combos. The Groover Big Band, for example, has been blowing away audiences for more than fifteen years and would love to invite you to come and audition...

Listening

Although Groover is a jazz club, there is also a great love for related music styles such as, funk, Latin, fusion, soul and blues. These can be heard at the jams, at performances at the Jazz Club or at the festival Just Jazz, where famous artists from the Dutch jazz scene also play. There are also combos within Groover that write their own music and perform with it. These include Wakki, Heemels Trio and the Kris Ransijn Trio. Furthermore, a playlist of the month is made on Spotify by members to let each other hear different things.
