Career opportunities

As a graduated Clinical Technologist you can work in a medical institution such as a (academic) hospital, a specialized medical institute or another healthcare institution. You can also work in the medical industry or at a university or research institute.

Doing a PhD

A scientific career starts with a PhD track. You will work in an international environment and will deepen and broaden your knowledge in four years through the Graduate School's Doctoral Education Program. Ultimately, you will write a dissertation in which you record your contribution to science. After the promotion, you can call yourself Dr. (PhD). The faculty offers various options for this.

Work

As a clinical technologist you often work in a multidisciplinary team. For example, you can work at the Radiology department and use scans to detect abnormalities in the brain and nerves or determine the exact location of a tumor. Or you prepare operations by simulating them with biomechanical computer models and you support the surgeon with surgical robots. You may also be responsible for the introduction of new treatment techniques, such as innovative ways to administer medicines more accurately.

You can also opt for a medical-technical position without direct contact with patients. For example, to increase productivity and quality in a healthcare institution with the improvement of existing or the introduction of new technologies.

With your knowledge of both medicine and technology, you can also work as a clinical technologist in the medical industry as a link between doctors and technical designers. In this way you play an important role in the development of new medical technologies.
