After obtaining a BSc (HBO) in Electrical Engineering, both theoretical as practical, I was looking for a new challenge in which I could learn the logic behind management- and strategic decisions, the logic of successful entrepreneurship and the science of project management. Being primarily an engineer, the Management of Technology (MOT) Master’s programme at the Delft University of Technology was the right programme to go for. This programme combines business with technology and adds real value to the knowledge of engineers. Although MOT is a Master’s programme, there is much emphasis on real life cases in project groups. Even the globalisation trend is included in this programme by allowing only 50% of Dutch students and 50% of foreign students to the programme, which makes projects extra interesting due to cultural differences. After I graduated in November 2010, I was looking for a job which would enable me to combine my Electrical Engineering and Management of Technology knowledge. A Technical Management Traineeship within Siemens Netherlands provided me the opportunity to get to know the complete organisation and accelerate my personal growth in combination with a regular position in the company. My traineeship takes one day per week and consists of training and projects in different parts of the organisation. During the other days I work as a business developer, with the goal to become a project manager within two years. Within this job I combine technology with business, think about creating new business models for electric cars and investigate the market attractiveness for these business models. During my daily tasks I constantly benefit from my MOT knowledge and skills. I believe that the MOT programme has broadened my horizon and will help me to boost my career in the future.
