Navigating Complexity: An interactive session with an EPA alumnus
Last February, a group of master students in Engineering and Policy Analysis (EPA) wondered how they could find their paths after obtaining their master’s degree. The students, who are all committee members of Friends of Dentatus, the EPA student association, decided to invite alumni to share their experiences with current students.
Sharing experiences
On the 27th of May, the first alumni virtual sharing session took place with Gurvinder Arora. Gurvin is now working as a consultant at Monitor Deloitte in The Netherlands. He graduated in 2018, served on the board of Dentatus, and specialized in Macroeconomic Policy Analysis & Structured Financialization for the OECD region. The conversation that ensued was semi-formal, informative and most importantly, accessible to everyone. Gurvinder: ‘It felt good to be able to help the EPA students, answering their questions of what it’s like to bring your EPA knowledge into practice, after all not that long ago I was in the same position and had similar questions myself.’ There were questions on how he got where he is, his current projects and their impacts. Gurvin spoke about how the biggest strength of EPA graduates is their ability to navigate complexity.
Next up?
This session resonates with the vision of this initiative by Friends of Dentatus, to make experiences of alumni accessible to students and present the varied possibilities and challenges they face after graduation. The EPA students also appreciated it very much. The Friends of Dentatus committee members are now looking for alumni who wish to share their experience, present new opportunities or simply express a word of caution to their past selves through this platform. If you are reading this and are interested in having a chat with the EPA students, feel free to drop a note to dentatus@curius.nl.
