Different from other MSc tracks, in Control and Operations you will mainly focus on the “use” of aircraft and how you can improve the safety and efficiency of aviation operations, whilst reducing the environmental impact. The knowledge and different methodologies to accomplish these goals are contained in two profiles: Control & Simulation and Sustainable Air Transport. Each profile has its own unique focus and profile courses. Therefore, a student in C&O has to make a decision from the start in which profile he/she wants to be active.
-
Profile 1, Control and Simulations (C&S), focuses on the control and simulation of dynamic (aerospace) vehicles and systems in order to achieve safe and efficient operations. It builds on top of the following BSc knowledge:
- Control Theory (ae2235-I)
- Instrumentation and Signals (ae2235-II)
- Flight Dynamics & Simulation (ae3212-I/II)
Refreshing your knowledge in control theory (e.g., Fourier and Laplace transforms, Bode diagrams, root locus, state-space systems, transfer functions, etc.) and flight dynamics is certainly not a waste of time for this profile. This may help in gaining new knowledge and skills developed within C&S, such as:
- Non-linear control theory and techniques
- Machine learning (and (big) data analysis)
- (Real-time) human-in-the-loop simulation
- Human-machine interaction
- Drone development and “field testing”
