Janneke Zwetsloot
BSc-student Applied Earth Sciences

Why did you choose Applied Earth Sciences?
I chose Applied Earth Sciences because of the combination of different subjects. From the start, I was looking at technical study programmes but most specialise in a single specific field and that wasn’t something I wanted. At secondary school, the geology elements of geography really appealed to me. When I discovered that Applied Earth Sciences combines technology and some chemistry with a great deal of geology, I knew it was the perfect study for me. I finalised my decision after attending one of the ‘Student for a day’ events.

Passions?
In daily life, I enjoy playing field hockey and painting. I also love joining committees at, for example, our study association. And I like hanging out with friends or going to parties.

Challenges?
My greatest challenge is to complete the study programme and still spend time on my hobbies. Alongside that, I intend to figure out where I want to be in a couple of years’ time.

What do you want to become?
I have no idea what I want to become. The first thing I need to decide is which master track I would like to do after completing the Bachelor programme. For now, I’m thinking about Petroleum Engineering or Geosciences and Remote Sensing.

Fun to know?
Studying Applied Earth Sciences gives you a lot of opportunities to go abroad. You don’t have to wait until you’ve graduated to visit other countries. You can do your minor or master abroad or look for an internship. I’m thinking about doing an internship this summer, I think this would be a nice experience.

Meet me
You can meet me at 'Student for a day' or the Open Days, which I will attend.
