Review and Strategy Report

GreenTU has the purpose of helping TU Delft achieve its goals of a sustainable future. As a tool for both internal parties as well as students (or anyone who is interested), a report was created to highlight all ongoing activities, structured along the four pillars of the vision of GreenTU. Besides covering these topics as they are currently present at TU Delft, the report also provides a wide range of strategy suggestions based on the available data as well as feedback from staff and students. This includes an analysis of the carbon footprint of the activities associated with the TU Delft campus and how these can be related to the carbon neutrality goal set for 2030.

To make this expansive report more accessible, a compact summary was created, as well as summaries on individual core subjects within the report.

1. Education

TU Delft has a social responsibility to educate its students to become sustainable engineers. For GreenTU, this means that  every TU Delft student should have a basic understanding of sustainability, and should be given an opportunity to explore different aspects of sustainability, as well as the opportunity to become an expert in any of the specific domains of technical environmental sustainability.

2. Research

TU Delft has formed strong multidisciplinary cooperation and partnerships with research organisations, governments, and corporations. Furthermore, student teams and a vibrant entrepreneurship atmosphere has helped push the boundaries of what is technologically feasible. Nevertheless, there are areas where GreenTU believes that TU Delft has yet to harness its full potential.

3. Operations

TU Delft values its position in building a sustainable future, which should also be reflected in the daily operations of the campus. So far, GreenTU has collaborated extensively with several departments around TU Delft, notably including Campure & Real Estate & Facility Management (CRE&FM). Based on this experience, the vision for operation is divided into six areas: energy, food, mobility, waste, water, and procurement.

4. Social engagement

Collective effort is needed in order to achieve sustainability. For this to work, it is necessary to create an inclusive, safe, and just environment in which people can believe and support the cause. The various initiatives taken up by university management and organisations like GreenTU cannot succeed without the individual and collective contributions of a multitude of individuals.
