Urban Energy Institute Meetups aim to bring together two complementary perspectives – one from a researcher and one from a practitioner – bridging research and practice.
Schiphol’s Smart Energy Hub by Rogier Bleys, Director Energy & Sustainability at Compris
If airports are like small cities, what can urban areas learn from Schiphol when it comes to the energy transition, grid congestion and energy hubs? Schiphol Airport is building a microgrid to support its decarbonization goals and reduce pressure on an increasingly congested electricity grid. So far Schiphol has implemented a series of Iron Flow Batteries for energy storage, providing storage for locally generated electricity and easing grid congestion. The next phase will focus on further smartifying the grid, enabling bidirectional energy flow and increased flexibility. Rogier Bleys will outline the roadmap for implementing Schiphol’s microgrid, sharing key lessons learned and current challenges.
A second speaker from the UEI/ TU Delft community will be announced shortly.
