Towards True Inclusion: Advancing Queer Emancipation by Decoding Homonationalism, Homonormativity, and Homocapitialism?
The Netherlands was the first country to legalize same-sex marriage and is home to the famous Amsterdam Canal Pride. It is often perceived as the most progressive and inclusive society for queer people by its citizen and internationally. Despite this, current data suggests otherwise – compared to many European countries, queer rights and acceptance are relatively weak and still in decline.
What's behind this phenomenon, and how can we further advance queer emancipation? In this lecture, we will decode the concepts of homonationalism, homonormativity, and homocapitalism to understand how LGBTQIA+ inclusion is limited to specific identities. We will also examine why and how queer individuals with intersectional identities may face unique obstacles in both society and the queer community. Through this, we aim to explore paths toward meaningful inclusion.
