Steven Gardiner: The Ethics of Climate Action

Climate action aims to create a better, more just world. It therefore requires not just technical knowledge, but also ethical understanding. Join Stephen Gardiner (University of Washington), in conversation with James Hutton (TU Delft), as they delve into the philosophical underpinnings of climate action. This discussion, suitable for experts and non-experts alike, will explore critical questions about what our responsibilities and duties are to act on climate change. Topics will include:

• What individuals should do when governments fail to take adequate climate action.
• Whether it’s wise or foolish to pursue geoengineering.
• Steve’s proposal for a Global Constitutional Convention to protect future generations. 

Stephen Gardiner is Professor of Philosophy and Human Dimensions of the Environment at the University of Washington. He is the author of the monumental A Perfect Moral Storm: The Ethical Tragedy of Climate Change (OUP, 2011), plus many more influential books and articles connecting climate ethics with economics, policy, and public health.
