Minerals in the making

The ‘Mineralen in de maak’ exhibition takes you on a journey of discovery through the earth. Visitors are introduced to the various ways in which minerals and rocks were created.

Every room displays in different ways how these minerals and rocks originate. The layout of the rooms is inspired by the principles of a mineral’s creation; cubic forms are the guiding principle which recur in each space.

The photo here on the page shows a cross-section of the final room in the exhibition. It presents the creation of metamorphic rocks. Within this dark space, the minerals and rocks seemingly ‘float’ within blocks on the floor and ceiling. Thus, a visitor feels the pressure under which these minerals are, in an almost magical way, formed with the earth’s mantle.
