Roos Burkens - Polaroid: between art and technology

‘Polaroid: between art and technology’ is an exhibition that houses nine cameras produced by the brand Polaroid during its short but impressive lifetime. The collection is supported with a historical overview of the inventor and founder Edwin Land, his passion for chemistry and entrepreneurship, and the influence of instant photography on the cultural developments in the second half of the 20th century. Each camera in the collection is presented with an original advertisement explaining the uniqueness of that camera, from special jingles to a collaboration camera with the Spice Girls. Three of the cameras are on display with a set of influential artworks by Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Lucas Samaras, supported with an explanation of their artistic methods and their reasons for working in the medium of the Polaroid. The exhibition uses the colors cyan, yellow and magenta in its design, the three colored inks present in a Polaroid film pack.
