Mia Margolis - Longing for Less

The collection has been chosen in reference to silhouettes following the trend of maximalism to minimalism since the mid-century. It is a matter of form versus function; is there a line that has been crossed where objects lose their authenticity? A series of 7 pavilions populate the space to create a landscape and each one is dimensioned to house specified objects. Screens project their morphing silhouettes and leave viewers questioning what once was and what will become. These include chairs, sharpeners, typewriters, lamps, teapots and clocks. The contradiction is technology and consequent objects have advanced to become multifunctional meaning we don’t need as much anymore. This inspires the progression towards the trend of minimalism although we still manage to have a problem with overconsumption.
